The Mystery Behind the Sailing Stones of Death Valley


In my latest article for Environmental Graffiti, I explore the “Sailing Stones” in Death Valley National Park in California. These stones, some of which weigh 700 lbs are known to move hundreds of meters across a nearly perfectly flat, dry lake bed. The kicker is that there are no signs of human or animal intervention in their movement, and nobody has ever seen the event happen. All that is left are long paths that the stones leave behind.
